I'm exploring the possibility of getting a NAS setup for my house. I currently mirror things in the same computer and would like to detach my backup from my box and be able to access that information remotely. By backup, I mean not using RAID1, but actually copying over the data periodically or on demand.

Are there any established products that could hold about 6 TB?

I was looking at Synology, but a 2 drive setup goes above $500.

Hi revv,

if you are on a budget, you could look at something like our Personal Cloud to meet your needs. This is basically a "mini-NAS" and comes as a complete package with hard drive(s) already included. Additionally, you'll get a lot of basic features a NAS offers - most important online access to your files, e.g. by using the corresponding app.

We hope that helps...
