Title says it all. Does anyone have any ideas for a case for an SR-2 that I can modify so that I don't have to spend $300 or more for a case?\

Help me Obi Wan Kinobi, you're my only hope!

Use $2.99 chair plastic cushions. Use the nail (with the safety caps still on) as the guide.

Put on desk or shelf in sever rack.

Done

I was waiting on this one. I thought about naked, but I love the look of a nice case.

Well than, if looks are your goal, allow me to introduce the stylish yet secure $3 washing basket over a floor tile..

Actually I don't know of cheap yet good SR2 cases sorry - it has always been a problem.

Ok, I do appreciate the naked shots.....gets me [H]ard, but I really do want an affordable case. I may just buy the $300 Pinnacle 24 from MM.

not exactly as affordable as some seat cushions or a wire basket, but apparently theres a simple mod to make a 700d fit an SR-2. They've been as low as $200

The 700d mod uses the Mountain Mods EATX motherboard tray, so you need to add $60 plus shipping to your estimated cost.

I keep looking, but mine is still nekkid. It makes it easier to clean, too.

yes. the 700d was my #1 candidate until I found the Lian Li PC-A77FB was $150 or so at Microcenter.

It will fit in that. I missed getting one at my local MC for $142. I kick myself every time I think of it.

I actually saw one here on [H] where a guy drilled the rivets out of the panel separating the PSU chamber from the mobo chamber and then flipped it around and screwed it back in. Apparently the extra few millimeters is enough. Of course the mounting holes won't line up, but you can drill those in too

Right. The Mountain Mods tray is only necessary if you want to use all of the PCIe slots.

By any chance do you know where that is located?

I just ordered the 700D. Not a bad price at all, $219 after MIR, free shipping @ the Egg.

I will definitely post some pics when it is done. Mod appears to be SO easy. Plus I've always wanted to buy a Corsair case. Guess now was the right time.

I did a mountain mods tray in a 700D, it was a bit of cutting, drilling out rivets etc. as long as you dont have a rad in the top you can move the whole tray up a bit and it fits fine.
I dont like that case because so much wasted space for non existant optical and hard drives.
does not need to be so HUGE!

I'm not going to do the MM tray mod. I don't care if I have all the PCI slots available.
