Cheapest Headphone Amp!

I think I have figured out the cheapest way to get yoself a headphone amp. Just use the headphone out on a set of powered speakers. I use the headphone out on my old Polk powered 2.0 speakers that came with my computer back in 1998.

But I have one question.

I have always wanted to get a really nice set of headphones such as Grado's SR-60's off of ebay but I didn't want to use them without an amp. I want my bass and volume! My current headphones are some old ( prob 1998) open Kenwoods that came with my $100+ portable CD player. I have always liked the way they sound despite how cheap they look.

So my question is, would my ultra cheap headphone amp solution provide such hideous quality sound to the SR-60's that it would not be worth the upgrade from my kenwoods?

Of all the nice entry level headphones out there, the Grado SR60s are probably the best suited to run without an amp. I don't think that they benefit that much from one, since they are efficient headphones already.
 
I have heard several "included" headphones as you say (idk, probably about 8 diff types). These kenwoods amaze me every time I put them on. They look like some of the cheapest headphones for sale, but they don't sound like em.

So what is the advice? Run the SR-60's through the cheap amp or use no amp?
 
I have to agree ... the headphone outputs on every single multimedia speaker system I have ever listened to compromised the quality to such an extent that it becomes... nevermind.
Try it yourself and tell us what you figure out. :D
