Currently looking to build a cheap computer for browsing / WoW. I just built a SandyBridge build, but I'm a college student and back and forth between home and college so I'd like to get a decent computer at home for WoW. It's hard to go from 100+fps at max settings to <30 on low settings lol. The computer I'm going to be replacing is a HP Slimline S3400F... X2 2.7GHz dual core, 9500GT.. yeah. I could use any parts from it, but I don't think it would be worth it to do so (optical or hdd?). I'm looking to stay around the $500 mark here and lower if possible, though I'm not looking to save a meager $20 at the cost of any substantial performance. I'd like to max out WoW or either come close to it. I was thinking about going with an AMD X3 and attempting to unlock to quad-core. Possibly gtx460 768mb version for the graphics card, though I'm not too sure. It might be worth it to go ahead and get the 1GB version or 6850. Anyways, any suggestions?

^I do have this case in my closet from my first build ever back in 05. I'd have to replace the fans in it though - I'm pretty sure at least one of them went out or I either lost it, also the LEDs are out, but thats no big deal.. I'm not about looks. Would it be worth it to use this case (replacing the shitty PSU of course) or just get a new one?

There is no way in Hell I would use that case.. Anything bigger then a mITX should not have 80mm fans..

if you are only worried about the 80 mm fans why spend $40 on a new case that only comes with 1 x 120mm fan. He could buy 2 new 120mm fans for $10 and save the $30. Also, you are down grading the psu for a diff case? I'm not sure if thats a good spend?

1x 120 > 2x 80mm fans.. In addition to that the case I recommended has placement for another 3 120mm fans where as the OP's case has fan placements for a total of 4 fans stock. 3 of them are 80mm & the 4th is a 120mm, the the restriction on the hole is insane & for all intensive purposes would need to be modified to be worth a damn..

And downgrading the PSU got more CPU power, New case & a faster video card. Also I haven't seen any reviews for the 500w version so I wouldn't recommend it. I Cant find anything that confirms that it is actually a CWT DSA unit, only speculation.
 
I would only be concerned about those holes if the system were really hot, which they aren't.
 
No microcenters nearby so those are out of the question. Gonna go take a nap and i'll look this thread over when I get up. Thanks for all the input so far
