I need a cheap video card for my parents system. They arent playing games on it at all just regular internet sutfing and word-processing. Perhaps a TV-Out just in case. What would you guys recommend. I would prefer it have a passive cooling system on it.

I would probably go with a Radeon 7000 from Newegg. Around $30 ish. ATI cards generally have excellent 2d.

I agree...low end Radeons are great for desktop use...cheap with excellent 2D, it's what I put most of my customers in.

looks like an old(er) rage 128 pro with tv out, like my moms

general Information :
Model : Rage 128 PF/Pro AGP 4x (TMDS)
Manufacturer : ATI Technologies
Bus Type : AGP
Manufacturer : ATI Technologies Inc.
Total Memory : 16 MB
Texture Memory : 12 MB
Processor : Rage128 PRO (AGP 4X)
Converter : Internal DAC (250Mhz)
Refresh Rate (min/max) : 60/85 Hz

50 fps!!! if you can find one of these from a buddie or online ( $5-15 bucks ) it will save you some coin  :D

ATI RADEON 9000 Video Card; Im looking at this card Its 4X agp and im putting it on an NF7 board thats 8X Should I just get the 8x?

Also what would this be equivalent to in Nvidia? I actually prefer nvidia because I heard that their TV-Out is much better than the low-end ATI cards. What do u guys think?

honestly there isnt going to be anything noticeable between 4x and 8x, but the 8x equivalent would be a 9200, 5200 would be the equivalent low end card but I would advise against it.

Get them a GeForce4 MX440 or something like that if they aren't going to be gaming.

yep I think Ill go with a GeForce MX. It should have better TV_out quality then the lower-end ATis right?

Is this an existing system that needs replacement vidcard or something you're building from scratch?

If you're building from scratch, you might just get a board with onboard video.

im building it from scratch and already got the NF7. But there are changes now. A friend brought over his computer with nvidia FX5600 and used the TV-Out and it was amazing. They really liked it, so now they are willing to spend a little more $$ to get the TV-out quality like the FX5600.

Now heres the thing. I have a 4200Ti and the 5600FX's quality in TV-Out is like day and night. Howcome? Did they change the processor for TV-Out or something? Anyway, whats the cheapest card I can buy, that has the same quality TV-Out as the FX5600. Thanks guy sorry for change.

heh havent been keeping tab on tvout technology but if you want a similar cheaper card maybe a 5200fx ultra? i dunno its pretty much same as gf MX 400 or something, just upgraded support and few more technologies, and is same line as FX5600, for most part.

well I went with this card what do u think? VGA PNY FX5200 64MB DDR 8X for $51.20 it is refurbished from newegg.

I would have went with this Chaintech for $52 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-067&depa=1

128MB ram, AGP 8X and tv-out. Plus it's new retail boxed and only .80 cents more with double the ram. Refurbs are questionable at best and Newegg gives this disclaimer:

Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS. Refurbished items are OPEN BOX products that contain components that have previously been owned by other clients and returned to Newegg.com. These products are sold considerably under cost.

Anyway...if you can cancel the order, I would.

yea but its 64-Bit. Do you think I should still go with it? The other one is 128bit I believe.

Do you think its enough reason to stay or to go with the chaintech? I just canceled my order thank to you :) So I have time to think it over. What do u think?
