Does anyone know of an open source software similar to the Cisco Wireless Control System. One that would control (flashed) linksys routers and access points, similar to how Control System administers Cisco access points.

I concur with your statement about not using this in a professional environment.
 
Check out the 521 and 526 devices from Cisco. This is as cheap as you will get for Cisco devices.
 
Thanks, but anything more advanced with features like vlan support. I'm not really looking for a hotspot type of situation. This is gonna be for a private network. ;)

You want to look at the Cisco "lite" access points and controllers then. Specifically the 500 series devices that were mentioned above. Not sure anything exists in the open-source world for lightweight access points.
