i'm looking to build a really cheap server that won't need to be fast AT ALL. i'd like 5.1 audio out, gigabit LAN, and firewire800 (the last two are semi-optional). i know i may have to fork up some money for a descent hard drive. any suggestions on parts?

cheap is < $350. i already have a keyboard and mouse (ps2). scratch the 5.1 output.

The SK43G should be available for around 160 to 180. From there you can get a PCI to PCMCIA adapter and just use PC card firewire 800 and gigabit ethernet. The SK43G is old enough you should be able to get everything else cheap.

shuttle sv24/25 systems are cheap. They don't have gigabit (they do have 10/100), but they have firewire (I'm not sure what speed). Plus, they are still the smallest shuttle ever made and you can find whole systems for <=$150.
