cheap SATA

seagates are a good reliable drives... i did a littel looking my self and you can get the same drive on newegg for 85$ (oem thow... i think thats a 30 day warrentee) some will argue that it is a little slow... but i think it is made up for by not dyeing...

... on a side note.... i have no experience with sata drives... im baseing this off there ata and scsi recorde... assumeing there quality is up to snuff it shoud be as good as the platters and head whould be the same ... just the interface is faster

I just picked up two hitachi deskstar 7k25o drives 80 gig $79 a piece . These SATA drives are fast and very quiet.

Actually the Hitachi's are an entirely new design and not related to the earlier models that had problems (that firmware updates fixed). Recent reviews show the new models to be at the top of the list for both performance and noise.

Really there isn't any drive manufacturer out there with a spotless record, they've all had duds at some point. Unless you have a backup plan in place you're gambling with you data living on any model drive.

Samsung. The Spinpoint SP1614C. Doesn't get any better than that. Silent and fast.
