Cheap rotary tool?

I'm looking to a make a small cut out of a backplate built into an OEM case.

What's the cheapest rotary tool I can buy? Are cheaper tools less safe? (I'm an ultra noob)

You can usually get a nice cordless set from Harbor Freight for about $25-30. Maybe less if you don't care about cordless.

Works amazingly well. One of the discs will last for an entire case of major modding. You can pick them up in a hardware store as well.

I went this option. It was about 20 bucks or so when I bought a corded rotary tool kit. It's a good start.

don't know if there is any differences between a dremel and cheap rotary tools (B&D et al) but a corded option is definitely better option than cordless.

I got one from Big Lots for $25 with all the accessories, has worked very well so far. "shop basics" brand or some such, red in color.

I would advise against cordless. less power.

Dremel is just a brand name. (I learned that recently)

I had to return my Black and Decker unit. It was broken when I got it.

Spend a bit more and get corded with adjustable RPM, comes in handy

Sears Craftsman rotary tools are manufactured by Dremel but sold under the Craftsman name and much cheaper than a Dremel brand one.

I bought a multispeed corded kit a few years ago for about $45 and have never had any problems. (A Dremel branded kit with similar accessories and features was more than double the price.) All Dremel branded accessories work with it also.

Good call in the B&D one. I'we used it for the past 2 years without issues. You can also use the dremel attachments on it.
