Cheap power supplies

My Antec Smart Power 450 watt PSU started whining this weekend.

It's not the fans, so something probably blew.

I submitted an RMA request to Antec, but they haven't gotten back to me. Since I've looked into it, I've seen a lot of problems with this unit, so I don't think it would be worth it to pay for shipping only to have to replace it 8 months later.

Does anyone know of a cheap power supply to power the system in my signature (soon to be a Core 2 Duo system)? How's this one?

EDIT: I just realized I can get the entire case replaced by Newegg. I was thinking of getting a Lian-Li case anyway. :D

I just contacted Newegg, and since I don't have the original packaging I can't get an RMA, but I can get a $25 discount towards a new PSU.

Other than Jonny's review, do you have any other reason to recommend these?

Do you lnow anybody who is using one?

Seventeam... all you need to know.

Not really, have you ever used a Seventeam in anything?

How many different lines of PSU's do they make?

What is the warranty?

And again do you actually know of anyone who is using this exact PSU?

Not really a good pick there.

When did you buy it from Newegg? That's acceptable?!?! I'm sorry... does Newegg's RMA suck that bad? Why do people like this place? If it's within 30 days and it's DEAD, they don't need packaging so they can throw it on the pallet that goes back to Antec at the end of each month.

Ooooo kaaaayy guys.... I will say for build quality the Masscool/Nextherm is better build quality than the Xclio.

Jonny,

I have reviewed/tested 3 different XCilo's 400W, 450W & GoodPower 500W, all were very nice CWT builds of about the same quality as the TruePower II's, except the fans move enough air to keep them cool.

I have recommended hundreds of these & have created many happy XCilo customers.

XCilo's have a 3yr warranty.

Do you know of many people actually using this 460W Masscool?

What is their warranty?

I read your excellent review, but lack any feed back from the "real world" on these PSU's.

Have you ever reviewed/tested any of the XCilo's?

Would you like too?

EDIT:

As we are trying to provide the least expensive "known good" solution &
the XCilo 450W is $40 & the XCilo GoodPower 500W is $49, while the MASSCOOL is $60, I believe the XCilo recommendation best meets the OP's request. :D

I bought the power supply last December.

I've been given the opportunity to review a OCZ EvoStream for a site I'm going to write for, so I'll see how things work out. Thanks for the replies.

I have installed MANY myself and I never said they were bad.

Unfortunately, Masscool product only has a one year warranty.

Absolutely. About 6 months ago, Tiger had them for only $50 after MIR and I bought and installed quite a number of them.

What I am saying is that between the two, the build quality is better on the Masscool than it is the Xclio. That is ALL I SAID. Other than that, all I had said was that the particular Thermaltake he listed was a bad choice.

Again, I didn't say the Xclio was "bad."

I know you like being the end all authority, and you're a great go-to guy, but the way you recommend AGAINST something until you personally is kind of silly. If you don't know, you don't know and you should be able to leave it at that. Instead, it's "not recommended" until YOU prove otherwise.

I'm willing to admit that for someone to meet a price point, the Xclio may actually be a better VALUE than the Masscool. The Masscool is actually a bit overpriced. But I came in and gave my two cents on build quality because you're beating up on dbTelos for simply suggesting something based on a review I did and now you're all over the place. Too much coffee Dave.

In reality, I personally think there are even better value than either the Masscool or Xclio, but I don't like participating in that capacity because the thread always turns out to be just a bunch of people yelling out what their favorite brands are and then someone comes in and suggest a PC Power and Cooling because "you should never settle for less than the best."

I got an Ultra X-Finity 500W for $10 after MIR and worked flawlessly on my deceased 7900GTO @ GTX speeds. Combined 34A on the 12v rails with a steady supply of +/- .2v on the rails. For example, my 12v produces 12.13v idle and 12.34v on load.
