Need a PSU for my new 2500k build. I have a Corsair HX520 in my other pc which has served me very well. I've been looking at these -

Seasonic X750 Gold - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087

XFX PRO750W XXX Edition Semi-Modular - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207016

(are these 2 pretty much the same thing?)

CORSAIR Professional Series HX650 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012

COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171037

OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular - http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-ModXStream-Modular-Performance-compatible/dp/B001EYV690

I've listed the CM and OCZ at the end since I believe these aren't considered as good as a Seasonic/Corsair. OCZ is the cheapest, but also doesn't have single rail or the best reviews, so I'm pretty sure that won't be recommended.

This is another one I saw which I like based on the name, but its only 600W

PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703036

My goal is to spend $125 max and get the most PSU I can for the 5 years at least. It also needs to be quiet, which is the only thing worrying me about the XFX/Seasonic.

The Seasonic and the XFX are not the same thing. The XFX is based on the Seasonic M12D platform, which is one step below the Seasonic X platform. The XFX is much more similar in terms of performance to the Corsair HX line.

The ModXStream is a mediocre unit. The fact that it is not a single rail design has nothing to do with it. It has more to do with the fact that it only has about 600 watts available on the 12v side, instead of almost the full capacity as you find in many other power supplies today, and that it just does a "good enough" job efficiency, voltage regulation, and ripple suppression areas.

Why are you worrying about quietness with the XFX and Seasonic power supplies? They're the most efficient out of all that you listed, which means they put out less heat. Less heat = less air needed to cool = lower fan speeds.

well...

if it was me...

and i had the money and didn't mind spending it that Seasonic X750 is balls out awesome sauce.

if i was me..and i was kinda broke (which i am at the moment) and i checked my requirements and a 600 sounded reasonable.

I'd get that PCP&C 600 cause the price kills for a (semi) modular 80+ psu (seaonic makes that for PCP&C btw)

I wouldn't want the OCZ or Coolermaster ones at all the ocz cause it is meh and the coolermaster cause the Seasonic is cheaper and kicks it's ass

the corsair is nice and all but it is too much more than the PCP&C and too close to the X750 pricewise leaving it solidly in meh territory.

Because of the infamous 'coil whine'. I know its a matter of luck and most will not have it, but I'd rather avoid it if I could. I've read the x60 line does not have the problem, don't know if its true.

Is there anything cheaper which is recommended?

^^ Good point @atarione. What are you trying to power? 750 watts may be overkill for your system.

IMO, the 650HX is well priced compared to the PC P&C Silencer MK III since it offers an additional 6A on the +12V rail. Not to mention Corsair's excellent customer support as well as the fact that Corsair has a rep here on the forums offers additional value. The extra $19 for the 650HX over the PC P&C Silnecer MK III is worth it IMO.

There are cheaper modular PSUs that might be decent but they have a relatively poor price to performnace ratio and actually offers less power than your current 520HX.

yeah but is it white??? :)

i still think with the rebate the MK III is cheap enough to go for it

where as even with the rebate the price is close enough to the X750 (especially upfront costs) that i would hate myself for not going for it the whole time.

Black is always nice ;)

What rebates are you talking about?

In any case, I don't factor in rebates until I actually have it in my hand. So I'm comparing the PSUs based on their shipped price, not AR price.

well that is fine and all that makes my points even more true the x750 is only $5 more than the corsair $119.99 vs 114.99

all day every day i'd take the x750 for $5 more

on teh other hand the PCP&C is $90 (before the rebate so $30 less..figuring you get the rebate it would be $50 less)

$50 is nothing to sneeze at

but i'd rather have the seasonic

I prefer the Corsair Professional and Enthusiast series these days because they are well built and Corsair has great customer service.

I bought the Seasonic X750 for $109 on newegg - couldn't pass up such a good deal. It's a 60 day return window, I hope there's no coil whine.

I have the XFX, it's a good PSU. Definitely not loud. That being said, between the Seasonic, XFX, and the Corsair, I'd get the Seasonic. Really good deal at that price.
