Cheap Gaming Laptop...?

A friend of mine joined the military a few months ago, and he is looking for a gaming laptop up to about $1500. From what I can tell gaming laptop prices are through the roof, but he can't afford that much. Any advice as to what his best bet would be for games like BF 2042?

A tiny bit over budget, but I think the Asus A8Js is extremely hard to beat. A Merom CPU, a gig of RAM, a relatively compact 14" footprint, and most importantly, that GeForce 7700.
