cheap computers (how good for ppd increase?)

i was looking on ebay and in the DC-FSFT forum.

I saw that this motherboard can be had for $25 with offer.

I have some old pc133 ram laying around

and 478 processors on ebay are cheap.

How many ppd you think this would net with a 2.53 celeron, 256 mb pc133, network boot, linux debian minimal install?



I would like to get another dual core running 64bit linux but the processor alone will cost me over $100, this deal can be had for $45 total (35 shipped for motherboard) (10 for the processor)

If you are lucky that will net you 75 PPD. Save/spend your money elsewhere.

If electricity is free, go ahead and run it. Otherwise, I would save up for a C2D system.

I'd recon on ~2 PpHpGhz so 2x24x2.53= 121 Points per day.
5 way melts will run 1/3 slower, bonus Gromacs 1/2 faster.

The SMP client runs approx 4 times faster at ~8 PpHpGhz.

I purchased that same motherboard for $20 ( but i did buy 2 at $20 each so maybe they let me go cheap) save for the C2d machine, i bought these because i already had some P4's laying around.

celeron 336's are 64 bit, but single core.
coupled with a cheap 775 motheboard/cheap RAM, it might do ok.
