any suggestions for a super cheap SFF? i'd be using it as a server to mess around with. no heavy loads of any kind whatsoever. just going to be using it as an ssh/sftp, samba, webdav, and web server.

here's what i threw together from a quick visit to newegg. any suggestions on improving this/cutting cost?

Biostar made a pretty cheap sff using a via chipset. I have the upgraded model with nForce2, but I think it was around $160 or so.

Biostar Ideq210. It cost $170 ish I think from newegg. I just upgraded a friend's computer with it. Painless upgrade, its also real quiet.

Since you're looking at a retail version of a CPU, AMD puts a (3 or 5) year warranty on it. Therefore, Newegg is saying they have no warranty on it.

FYI there is a good deal on Sempron 3000+ at TigerDirect right now. From the [H]otDeal forums:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...CP2-SEM3000%20C
I don't know when this rebate expires, though, so you might want to buy this right away. The 512kb cache will make a nice difference, I would think.

Also, there are often people in the FS/FT forum selling used Socket A cpu's for good prices. Most buyers have had good luck there.

There are plenty of cheap mobo and cpu sets. Cheapest being this. Of course its only a via 800 but Ive seen servers run decent with much less.

As long as the board stays mATX or smaller there are nice cubes, like the aria or cheaper qpack

that would easily get the price under a shuttle w/cpu.

I'm not usually an Intel fan but there is a special on some FIC VG61s from this local place near me.

It should be right on their front page, 100 bucks for it.

It only takes 400/533 skt 478 though.

Seems like it might fit the bill for what you're looking for though.
