Well I have been a lurker on this forum for a while and I really wanted to do some case modding, so I bought a cheap mid-atx case for 50$ from newegg.com....and then bought fans, fan grilles and a fanbus from xoxide.com....and busted out the dremel and went to work....

Here is a before shot of my case

just had a couple of lit fans and such on it....I was having problems with overclocking and overheating...so naturally I thought...more fans!


The first set of fans I put on was this set of 92mm fans in my plexiglass window...

You will notice my terrible cut on one fan....yes I managed to screw up my plexiglass :rolleyes: so I have to get another piece cut, and I am going to have the holes for the fans heat cut instead of dremeling them out, which should prove to make much nicer looking window...also I threw some cheap fan grilles on these fans..

Then....to really keep my drives cool, I mounted two blue LED fans in the front of my case, and I put another 92mm fan on the other side of my case, so air would be sucked right across my drives...

And then for that extra touch, I put a red LED fan in my PSU and got a laser cut flame grille for it...

and to control most of my fans, I put in a cheap little fanbus that went with the blue theme of the case...

and so as I am probably destroying my upload speed, here is the final product minus motherboard and such, as I will be putting them in later. There is alot of cable management going on that you cant see in that picture, and wires hidden all over the place. My fanbus needs to be RMA'ed because one of the knobs quit workin on me :mad: but whence I get it replaced and I get my new plexiglass installed, I will post some pics of the finished product....for now this is what it looks like...

RESIZE THE PICTURES! it loads like molasses - and i have cable... i didn't even wait for it to finish - otherwise i'd say "hey good work" and all that other nice crap. :)
 
Looks good, all you need to do is fix that window. Next time when you cut out the fan holes maybe use a hole saw if you can, it'll provide you with a much nicer circle. If you don't have access to a hole saw scribe out your circle(s) on the plexi then cut them out but NOT on the line, you want to be slightly inside the line. Then you'll want to finish them off with a sanding drum on the dremel, to get right up on the line and it should come out looking good. That's the method I use to cut out holes :cool:
 
yeah i was fairly sure i was going to screw this up, so I already ordered another piece before even cutting. I cut the first fan hole wrong entirely...I guesstimated all the markings....whoop.....anyways yea I am going to see if i can use our mill to cut out holes on this...it should work well. otherwise, yeah the hole cutter will be the next bet.
 
Pretty good! That case aint too shabby looking as far as pre-mods go. Very nice look with the LEDs.
 
Did you use a disk to cut the fan holes into the window? Don't most people use a drill bit? I'm only asking because I'm thinking about doing a similar mod and I don't want to ruin my window :).
 
I had them hosted from my home and they were about 500K a pop.

and yeah, I used a dremel for cutting the window. It would have worked alot better if I would have actually marked off where I was going to cut first....I didnt on the first fan....I did on the second....basically, if you use a semi-thick dremel cutting disc to cut your basic outline and then a sanding drum like was stated above, you can get nice cut in the plexi. if you want a super duper nice one, i recommend getting it heat cut. I don't think drilling it would work well though because it tends to crack/shatter. but i dont know alot so i can be wrong:rolleyes:
 
XDremer case. I think you can get it from Xoxide. 4 front intake fans, 1 side fan, 1 top fan, 2 (or 1 120mm) rear fans.
My brother has one. It's a pretty good case for $60.
