At mwave they are selling AMD 2600's for $81, with a Soyo m/b thrown in!!
A 128MB basic blade section for under $100.

/edit - they sell the CPU w/o m/b for $85!!
Their web page is dog slow

That is Cheap! Except the CPU needs the DDR2700, so the cheapest they have that for is $36 for a 256MB DIMM, but still cheap overall

Nah man, you put whatever DDR you want in there. 2700+ is just the highest rated that the MOBO supports

Buckus is correct. The CPU that Mwave is selling with the motherboard is a 333Mhz FSB CPU, so it would require PC2700 memory.

I cant speak for this particular Soyo board, but I have used 2 other models of KM400 motherboard and both were able to run PC2100 memory with a 333FSB CPU. I would assume there was some performance lost, but it did do it.

P.S. The other two boards I used (one Biostar and one PC Chips) appeared to have an identical board layout, indicating it may be made on a reference design where all three would essentially be the same.

No, I use a 2600+ and some pc2100 ram. You could get away with any DDR. Just wouldn't be able to use that 333 FSB to its fullest potential.

Not a combo you would want to use for a game machine, or actual everyday work machine..but for folding no performance hit would be noticed. Been using and reusing old ( god this computer stuff ages fast;) ) 2100 ram on many machines.

Sale continues - mwave is now selling the Soyo K7VME m/b with either an XP3000 (333) ($144) or an XP2800 (333) ($108) with the board being free after mfg rebate. The rebate is good till 4/22.

Being the cheap a$$ I bought the 2600 solution yesterday for $81, plus $11 shipping.

Another update - still selling w/ the $50 mfr rebate, however IF you bought it on Monday you should have gotten the price with mwave $50 off, and the mfr rebate starts on Monday.
So I might have gotten an AXP 2600 plus Soyo motherboard for $31 plus shipping :) :) a true folding bargain.

Great deal, now if I could just get a better deal from the power company:rolleyes:

Looks like all you cheap bastadges got all the XP 2600s, as they only offer it with XP 2800 and up. I wish I had seen this earlier in the week, might have gotten one to replace my XP 1900...

Sorry Bill Clo -
You snooze
You lose
I started the thread on the 20th, did not get a succesfull purchase through till the 22nd. You could have bought them out anytime in between :) On the 22nd I bought the bundle, on the 26th I got the bundle in hand.
Now I have to file the freaking rebate to get my cost down to $31 for the bundle.
Also I lost the bundle, going to :
Give my youngest son the 2600 to upgrade his 2000 for his birthday.
Give my oldest son the 2000,
Solved 2 birthday presents at one swell foop.

I agree with you snooze you lose, it's just that I haven't been checking in here every day, since things have been kinda slow and I'm busy. :) I simply missed it, and by the time I did see the original post, too late. Ack, that would have been a good upgrade for my old XP 1900.
