So I have been looking for some cheap and easy (they dont have to be too simple)

So anybody have any ideas?

I have looked on a few google searches but I cant really find anything I want to do.

Im mostly looking for visual mods.
 
if you can solder, you can change out power and hd activity led's. snipping out built in fangrills grills (the no airflo hole punch lookign ones) and replacing them with wire ones. And do it yourself windows are pretty cheap and easy IMO.

What's your idea of cheap anyway?
 
buying neat switches from your local hardware store and putting them on the front of your case is one of my favorites
 
I used to have a switch on my case that switched the jumpers on two hard drives. It switched the master/slave/cable select jumpers. It was a simple way to dual boot and people would always wonder how in the hell a switch made an OS differance.

Thanx for some good ideas, so I think I will throw in a few more LED's and maybe a 120mm fan, and deffinatley some switches )I have an empty bay in from I can use)

So today I had nothing to do, and I was extremly bored and i had no money... so

I ripped apart a old computer so I put the HD in a case and so now its an external HD, which is nice.

So I took the fan off of the heatsink, and I took out the modem card, and i took off the actual components to it so I just have the metal part where the card was built onto... and I screwed in some wood, then screwed the fan onto it and put it under my graphics card to help blow more air onto it.

Is that drift wood? :p lol. I think that deserves to go in the "ghetto mods" thread. haha. Cool though. Props for doing a cheap mod.
 
Drift wood lol, That's what I thought.

A better way to do that mod would be to cut 2 holes into the PCI slot, and use 2 2" long screws and glue the fan between them. Therefore you get NO air cut off by your piece of... bwahahaha... wood :D.


Doing this lowered my NB temps by almost 12 degrees!

This is a great mod, I use it too :)
It assumes you have a standard type CPU heatsink although you could adapt it to heatinks with side fans.

Buy some tumble dryer hose or similar just big enough to fit over your CPU fan.
Cut a hole in the side of the case above the CPU, the size of the hose.
Fit the hose over the cpu fan and attach the other end to the hole in the case.
You will now have the coolest air going directly to your CPU, giving at least a 2C drop in temp.
Your case temps should drop too.

This uses the CPU's own fan to draw air in so you wont need another fan.
It looks quite good with just plastic white hose.
Silver hose would look cool :)
(watch for short circuits though)

oh yeah, make sure the hose is a bit longer than the distance from the side panel to the heatsink.
I hook my case side into its grooves at the bottom. Through the gap at the top I pop the hose onto the CPU then shut the case.
 
I use this one too.

Where your case fans are attached, the air passes through case metal with holes in it.
This makes the air noisier and slows down air throughput in the case.

Cut the fan hole out so air can flow at full speed directly into/out of the case.
It may now be a little quieter.
