cheap 5.1 speaker?

I having been looking at Logitech speakers. They have been relatively cheap, which are Logitech X-540 for 65$ and Logitech Z506 for 58$, refurbished. They seem to have good reviews.
Anything else you guys could recommend? Creative? Cyber Acoustic? Anything under 70$ would be great.

Most people here will tell you that a good 2.1 system is better than a low-end 5.1 system.

If you are insistent on 5.1 though, I like the X-540 much more than the Z506. The remote control pod is a very nice feature that Logitech removed on the Z506. I did personally own the X-540, and frankly I enjoyed it. The only gripe I had was that the matrix surround feature isn't all that good. Not sure how it would compare to a good 2.1 system though.
 
Considering one of these is less than a 5.1 headset, not a bad idea for gaming. Yes it isn't the greatest sound but for gaming at least it should do ok. Directional sound will be good. Better if you use a soundcard than using onboard.

For this budget range, the only way to get good sound is a pair of stereo headphones.
 
Thats fair, what is a good 2.1 system? I'm not that big of a audiophile, I had a oooold 50$ something altec lansing 4.1 speakers. I just loved how sounds were coming from all directions and the sound was excellent to me.

Or go with Logitech 5.1

Or look on craigslist for a cheap HTIB by Sony, Yamaha or Onkyo.
 
I've had my Logitech X-530's (previous gen x-540's) since 2004 and they're still going strong

If your audio source has a lot of frequency variety (highs to lows) for example, female vocals + DnB/Dubstep , (assuming you have subwoofer volume rather high) the bass will overpower what your two little speakers can put out.
Fortunately, If you happen to use Foobar2000 to play your music, you can convert stereo to 4-channels during playback, to utilize the extra two speakers.

bang for buck, they're nice.
