I have seen a lot of cases with the chassis (inside) painted. I really like the look, especially the black. It really makes everything stand out well. I tried painting one of my old cases just to see. It looked great, until I tried to put the mobo and other components in, and the painted was scratched off all over the place. How do you guys make it last and be more durable? I know how to paint. I sanded starting with 400grit, primer, wet sand w/800grit, color, wetsand w/1000grit, two more good coats of color. But it still chipped off very easily. The only thing I did not do is clear coat, because I wanted to keep the flat black look. Am I missing something? Should I be using a specific kind of paint? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance!
 
Besides there already being tons of threads about this exact thing you could have searched...

You have to scuff up the inside surface of the case before painting. Then use a metal bonding primer so it will stick to the metal. Then do all your painting, and finish it off with a clearcoat. I'm not going to go in depth because I already have done one or two guides that are floating around the forum if you do a search.
 
Well, thanx for your help, and sorry for wasting your time I guess. Whenever I search for something in the forum, I have to sift through about 50 B.S. threads to find one useful one. So I thought maybe a few of the more experience modders wouldn't mind typing a few words to help another person out. It's not like I am taking up your valuable time am I? I mean we're just wasting time onine in a forum, how busy can you be? Regardless, thank you for your advice.
 
I guess you didn't want to waste your valuable time by actually searching for more than 10mins? Reguardless, I gave you the answer. ;)
 
Sand everything.

Apply 2-3 coats of a SELF ETCHING PRIMER (important!) sanding with 2000grit SP between each coat. Letting coats dry for 20 minutes is enough.

Apply 8-10 colour coats. Not THICK COATS. It should take about 5 coats for the primer to completely dissappear. After you see NO primer, sand the colour coat with 2000 grit SP VERY LIGHTLY, and after a good 24 hrs.

Apply one more colour coat, as light as possible. Let it dry overnight

Apply 2-5 clear coats (same was as the colour coat) and let them dry for 12 hrs each.

Apply wax/polishing afterwards if needed.

Flat black is inherently more fragile than a gloss finish.
Satin is slightly better but still not ideal.

Powder coating or anodizing is the way to go if possible.
