Changing PSU fan direction

I have a Tagan 480 UG01 (atleast I think thats the model) inside a 2U case, black box in photo below

Currently the rear of the PSU is facing towards the front of the case and pulling air from the inside of the case

My rack mount setup follows: pull air from front, hot air out the back. So this server is kind of going against this.

IS it going to cause any issues if I change the direction of these fans and direct the air out the back of the case, if I create a kind of tunnel all the way down the right side of the case it shouldnt raise the temperature inside the case either...i hope!

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Other then voiding the warranty, I don't see why it would cause any problems. You might end up with lower pressure in the PSU, which in turn would theoretically create higher temps, but likely not anything worth mentioning.

So yeah, I don't think it would hurt anything.

Confused by the picture and question.

I assume the back of the picture is the I/O section and the left is the part that sits on the floor.

PSU , GPU and PSU look to be pushing air out the back and the 3 fans are pulling air into the case.

On that basis, what's the issue?

No, that case sits flat and the front is right-side up and front facing.

If there is a hole in the under the PSU and if there is a fan on the bottom of the PSU you could reverse the directions.

i haven't had a lot of exposure with 2U cases, wouldn't be simpler to flip the PSU over (fan on top). you'd need to cut a 120mm on the lid of the case tho to pull in cool air.

other than cutting the 120mm hole in case, you'd have to make sure that either this case was on top of the rack or at least have a space between it and the next device bolted into the rack.

EDIT: on second thought, think my suggestion might be a little more work than just reversing the fan direction inside PSU.

Sorry should have said the PSU dosent have a bottom fan its 2x 80mm fans

Changed them round and no issues yet :)

Look closer at the picture, the PSU is not at the back (though some wiring has been stuffed into the corner where a normal PC would have the PSU which makes it trickier to tell).

In a 4U or larger case you can have a normal ATX PSU mounted vertically at the rear but in a 2U or 3U case there isn't the height to do this. Mounting an ATX PSU horizontally at the rear in a 2U case would not leave enough space for an ATX motherboard (in a 3U case mounting it horizontally is possible with an ATX board but ends up blocking some expansion slots).

Higher end servers use specially designed (and usually redundant) PSUs that are designed to fit in the space that is left at the rear after putting in an ATX board. However those cost a lot so vendors of cheap 2U/3U cases tend to put an ordinary ATX PSU at the front (with an internal mains cable to bring power to it), This solves the problem of packing stuff into the available space but as the original poster of this thread noticed it leaves the PSU fans blowing in the wrong direction.
