Changing multiple folder permissions at once on Vista

Hi everyone,

It seems that the ability to change multiple folder permissions at once has been yanked in Vista.

Basically, I could select multiple folders in XP, and when I went to permissions, I would have a security tab like this:

xppermissions.jpg

but in vista, if I select multiple folders, and go to properties, all I have is this:

vistapermissions.jpg

I know that I can select the parent folder, and set the permissions to subfolders and files only, but sometimes I don't want to do it for every folder inside. And this way is easier anyways.

Any way I can get that Security tab back?

If you set the permissions at the higher level folder, or the root directory, all folders under it will take those permissions on. A non-issue, IMO.

Like I said in my original post, I am aware of that workaround, but sometimes I need to change the permissions on a few files\folders, and not the whole directory.

ps - your sig quote made me laugh

I'll play with my Vista box at home and see. I set all my permissions though as I build my file structure, so it's always from top-down, and I haven't had to go back in an reset any *knock on wood*. What version of Vista are you running?

Business edition on an AD domain. Tried multiple vista boxes too.

Basically, admin assisntants at our company sometimes screw up the permissions (yes, they're supposed to have access), and we have to fix them. This new feature in vista basically removes the ability to fix more than one at once if they are affected. Pain in the butt, but I guess I could keep an XP machine around if I need to do this type of work.

thanks for your help.
