I have an Asus F3 Laptop and i want to change the hard drive. I want to know if my recovery disc will still work on a new hard drive since it has vista and all important software in it.

I heard recovery disc will not work if you change the "motherboard" since the OEM operating system installed on the restore/recovery cd's are embedded with a code or some kind of identification.

I am only replacing the hard drive not the motherboard, will my restore cd from Asus with windows vista premium still work?

Thanks

It should. You may have to call Microsoft to reactivate it, though.

Vista is a whole different animal. When I was working for Circuit City, we had to replace a motherboard on a compaq with vista. Wouldn't load windows even though it was the same motherboard. Called Microsoft. They told me to call Compaq. I call compaq and they had me go through all these weird steps. Something about a tatoo or whatever. Someone else ended up finishing it LOL

I should add that you should call Asus first to see if it will work. I don't know if Microsoft will be much help.
