any ideas? my friend needs to kick up the dpi but it asks for his windows cd and of course he didn't copy the i386 folder to his hard drive...

any ideas?

when it asks, say you want to use the existing fonts rather than copy from the CD. If you never had the fonts installed, then umm, I don't think there's a way around it. I guess if you can find someone with the Windows CD and just copy all the fonts and install them manually, that will work.

it never gave him that option...when i tried it on mine it gave me that option.

stupid question but i can't "send" the fonts folder or anything like that?

sure you could, but will it work?

if you explore the i386 folder on the original disc and find the correct file/s, never had to look for them myself, so i don't know what files those would be, on my disc i am finding the following files in the i386 folder

FONT
FONT.DA_
FONTEXT
FONTS.CH_
FONTS.HL_
FONTSUB
FONTVIEW

not sure if thats all that is needed or if there's more, or if they have to be inserted during the install process, maybe requiring registering some .dll?

not sure

yeah...oh well...i'll just burn him an xp cd and send it off. of course he has the serial and no cd. really useful. =\
