I received a chaintech CMC5.1 riser card with my motherboard. It sounds ok I guess. I has spdif out (which I can’t use) along with aut l/r out and center out. My front speakers are hooked up to the motherboard sound panel whereas my rear speakers are hooked up to the CMR card. Would I benefit more by using a audigy 2 instead? I’m looking to use the sound just for gaming purposes and noticed alot of them have options for EAX which I don't think my riser card has.
 
Yeah, I'd go with an Audigy 2. The Chaintech card would be well suited for a casual home theater system, but for gaming it's a bit inadequate in terms of 3D algorithm support like EAX. The Audigy 2 will take care of that, and give you a little better sound quality as well.
