CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813152049

This is the model. I need some help.

In the manual, it states that before putting the processor in we need to set the jumpers for external clock speed, voltage, and frequency... However we are unable to find those jumpers on the board. Help from anyone who had this board?

I'm pretty sure they're full of crap. That's probably a generic manual given with lots of boards. I highly doubt that any NF4 based board is going to use jumpers to set that, lol.

Dont you need jumpers to overclock a processor? And how would I know that it will select the right characteristics for my processor (Venice 3200+)?

put it this way, chaintech has the WORST manual ever... I've read the thing and at least 3 things are totally wrong.

You do not need to set the jumpers for external clock speed. That is set in the BIOS and the HTT defaults to 200Mhz which is appropriate for your Venice. I had your Chaintech board before my current DFI so it's been a while, but I'm fairly positive all the overclock settings are done in the BIOS, however if you're this new to A64's, you're going to have other problems trying to overclock :) Read the guides on A64 overclocking before you go any further, but feel free to boot up the new comp at stock voltages and speeds, it should work fine out of the box.

edit: thx@above :)

Alright, thanks, so right now nothing will go wrong if I just plug the processor in and start up the machine (once im done building it :D )...

Btw this is my new pc ($900 w/o monitor, using my older 17'' LCD)

- Nforce 4 motherboard (pci-ex16, 939)
- AMD 64 venice 3200+
- Gigabyte Geforce 6600 GT
- 1GB Corsair value ram (1x 1024)
- Audigy 2 ZX
- Rosewill case
- Logitech speakers
- 160 GB HD
- NEC dvd burner...

Yeah I'm pretty excited :)

some more stuff (nice mouse/mousepad .. etc)

I operated this board and got a winchester 1.8 @ 2.34 without any voltage mods.
anything below a 5:4 divider on this board is bullshit, basically.

If only it had good ram... *sigh*
budget systems are fun!

Wait, but what about jumpers for frequency and voltage? There are no jumpers for that on the motherboard either, but the manual says to set them -_-

Don't worry about any jumpers, all that shit is handled in the BIOS.

Ahhhhh need more help

It seems that my power supply thing isnt right for my mobo, wtf? The part of the power supply which goes into the mobo arent the same. The one on the mobo is bigger... ... They are both ATX... Now I dont know what the hell to do?

People who have HAD this motherbaord, need some advice. It also has another separate power thing which is small.

Do I need to buy a damn pin converter? this sucks.

sounds like thats a 24 pin motherboard and you have a 20 pin with 4 pin connecter that slides on the side to convert to 24 pin. im just taking a guess from your description.it would help if you actually listed the power supply you have also.

Power supply is 400w Rosewill which came with the case.

It has gotten excelent reviews so I decided not to buy an new PSU before trying this one out.

That case/PSU combo is a decent BUDGET combo never intended for an overclocked athlon 64 system. If you're talking about the 155 series Rosewill that sells really well from Newegg with good budget reviews, I have multiples of those sets and they work fine for older budget systems.

Your PSU is a $20 ATX v1.3 PSU with a 20-pin power connector with around 17A on the 12V rail if I remember correctly. This is enough to power on a very basic NF4 system, but not safely for the longterm, and definitely not for overclocking. You can plug the 20-pin into the 24-pin connector on the mobo and leave 4 pins open. Most of the time it will only fit in one way with 4 pins open on one side.

This should allow you to boot up your computer, but I would recommend replacing that PSU the first chance you get. You want a 24-pin PSU with 25+ amps on the 12V rail if you can find one for cheap. That case/psu combo works fine on my NON-overclocked ATI xpress200 systems with A64 and integrated video. It will not work fine in the longrun for an overclocked NF4 ultra system with discrete graphics like a 6800 GT.
