Hey I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any sites that could give me an idea as to what is audible to the ear. Basically I am trying to make my new computer as quiet as possible by conventional cooling methods (air cooling). I have found multiple fans that boast 32.4CFM at 25dba. I think this is a crock but I want to know 1.) what is audible to the ear and 2.) what is the best cfm:dba rating out there. One such fan I found was an 80mm Aspire fan that boasted the 32.4cfm at 25dba but then a more well known company, atleast by me, Vantec(stealth) or Panaflo(low volume) boast 27cfm or 24cfm at around 21-25dba. This seems more likely to me but i wanted to know what other think and if we have any sound engineers out there what is a good suggestion.

Thanks,
Greg

its going to be tough to say, since everyone has a different perception of noise. But Nexus and Panaflos are usually the quietest, with Panaflo having great noise to CFM ratios. If you can fit a 120x38 fan, sanyo denkis are even better when undervolted. There's a member here that sells the Sanyos and Yate Loons (Nexus fans without resistor), you can PM him, i think his name is J-mag

Cool thanks for the input guys. If you have any other suggestions please post them.

Just keep in mind a fan with a good ratio might not be all that quiet. For example, a Delta fan that puts out 190cfm and makes 59db has a 3.22:1 ratio, but will probably result in long-term hearing loss, but an areocool fan that puts out 89cfm and makes 32db is relatively quiet and will cool your system fairly well even though it's only 2.78:1.
