So my board would take up to 3 more cards, but that's obviously not a fantastic return on investment. I had always heard good things about CF 4850's though.

Being that I could snag another 4850 and I have all the other hardware to support it, is that my best bet for performance increases in current gen titles and to be able to run the future games for the next few years?

Or is a whole new card the way to go?

it might help if you actually posted some info about your system. all your system specs including cpu, psu and your monitors res would be very helpful. also is that a 4850 512mb or 1gb model??

you dont buy a card to run games a few years from now. you buy the best you can afford that gets the job done now with a little room to spare. newer faster cards with better features for the same price are always going to come out so just upgrade when the time comes.

what he said, however as a rule of thumb crossfire 4850 is usually the best bang for the buck for an upgrade.

See if the games you want to play support it... I know I saw almost a fps loss by using it in WoW

Sorry, you're right I should have been more detailed. I built my system last year.

9850 Black Edition @ 2.8
4gigs Kingston Hyper @ 800
Asus 4850 512 @ stock - has aftermarket cooling
wd640 black
Corsair 750 PSU

I game on 1 or 2 acer 22" at 1680x1050 or 3360x1050 if I can make it scale correctly.

Any other thoughts? A hundred bucks for another card seems cheap, but if I'm not going to gain the ability to add more eye candy and that kind of thing, then I think an overhaul to something with more memory might be a better move. Comments?

its going to depend on the game, most game will scale quite well on a pair of 4850s, at 3.5mp your probably going to have needed 1gb cards if you wanted lots of AA and such.
