I currently have crossfired 3870s. I'm still happy with performance except when Anti-Aliasing. Pretty sure its been known since the 3870s came out that AA is crap.

I found some XFX 4890s at a local store for roughly $180 each.

Is it a good idea to keep my 3870s, go with the 4890s or purchase a single 5870?

Right now playing on an older 18" LCD, 1280x1024 because my LG L246WP-BN is broke. I'm looking to replace it with another 24" of the same resolution or a NEC EA231WMi.

AA is the only thing that disappoints me with my current setup because it starts to performance poorly in pretty much any game with more than 2x MSAA. I'm not playing too many new games with it, newest is L4D2.

use the CF 3870's til the prices drop on the 5870 then grab one of those..

Yeah I think you're going to get price gouged for a premium on the fact that the 5870's are all the rage right now. Give it some time and the DX11 cards will come down. I just don't see them as any sort of a value.

On another note 1 4890 might be nice if you can buy it used off of the forums here for a bit less?

You could keep them and get a 5870 later when they're available and when they're cheaper. Or sell them and get a 4890 as it's a damn good card! that'll do you L4D @ 1980x1200 Max sttings 8xAA and 16xAF if you decide to get that bigger screen.

I would stay with what you have until you get your new monitor, then upgrade to the 5870.

Thats not really a bad price for the 4890. You can probably sell your 3870s and recoup most of the cost. Unless you can find a 5870 for retail or less i wouldnt bother until you get a bigger monitor than that 18".

BB actually has them for 179 right now... I was surprised. No 5000 cards in stock at all, though.

If your looking to go crossfire wait a week or so and go with 5830's ...they will be dx11 and 256bit, all for 200 bucks. I'm more a fan of the single card route, but if performance of 2 of these is gonna be better for cheaper than a 5870 i might consider changing that.

Just so you know the BestBuy XFX 4890 is a non reference card. It does not have the digital PWMs and I believe is under-clocked slightly.

I'd do as a few others have said in this thread and wait for the 5870's to drop to their original MSRP or below that. Once Fermi is out the price gouging will stop and the competition will be on!

If it means anything I'm looking to sell my 4890 for $165 shipped. I got it in May of last year and it's done me well so far, but I'm hoping to sell it and downgrade for now.

bestbuy around these parts never has last generation video cards, let alone this gen. Good to see some of u have a BB with something to buy.
