Centurylink DSL modem recommendation

So I've had Centurylink/Qwest DSL in the past and have been disappointed especially with the hardware they provide (Actiontec modem in the past). I'm tempted again to switch away from comcast because centurylink just brought 40mbps down internet to my street for $30/month (and they have no bandwidth cap). I'd rather buy a modem than rent (probably used), but I want to stay away from crappy hardware pitfalls. Almost all the recommended modems are router/wifi combos which I detest. Reminds me of old tvs with vcrs built in, absolute crap. Does anyone have any recommendation for a DSL modem that is compatible with the 40mbps service (I believe that requires VDSL or VDSL2), that either does not have a router built in, or allows you to disable it without any connection reliability problems (the issue i was having before)? Thanks!

I'm currently renting one of their routers. Set 1 port to DMZ -> connect my router to said port -> success.

But I am curious as well if theres a good cheap modem out there to buy instead of renting.

Bump, still considering switching. Anyone have a 40mbps capable dsl modem to recommend?

the Q100 is a great modem, they used to offer it. i'd probably just go with whatever they give you to be honest tho. set it to bridge mode and be done with it.

My mom is moved to Florida and CenturyLink is all there is. Anyway, they gave her a Zyxel . Not sure what model. Ask them if they have that one.

Wish that I could help you. They only offer 12mbps in my area (for $50/mo after promo). I'm using a cheaper 24mbps ADLS2+ modem.
