Center channel not playing

I have an A7N8X Deluxe rev 2.0 and am using the onboard soundstorm sound with z-640's connected to the analog ports. The center speaker isn't putting out any sound, and the VU meter in the nvmixer isn't registering any output. When I run the wizard i get staticy noise from all the other speakers but its a high pitched whine out of the middle. I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers and i know all the ports and cables are correct. Any help would be awesome.

That sounds correct. The center channel puts out a high pitched noise while the subwoofer puts out a deeb rumble - that lets you know you've got the center/sub connected properly (only a problem if you're using a Y-adapter or splitter).

Your problem is most likely that you're not listening to 5.1 channel content. Try listening to this soundclip from Microsoft: http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/Utility/1.0/W98NT42KMeXP/EN-US/6channel.exe (You need Windows Media Player 9 Series) and see if sound comes out of every channel. Also try looking at the VU meters while watching a DVD movie.
 
yeah i feel like a huge dolt...the center works when i pop in a DVD and watch it. All systems are in fact go, despite my oversights (i thought the sub wasn't responding either, then i realized i modified the equalizer so as not to wake up the people right below me). But thanks for your help, its appreciated.
