well i manged to pick up a $35 asus p4s8x and i was short a cpu so i picked up a celron 2gig as a temporary chip. I was fiddling around in the bios and decied to try some ocing. to my suprise i am able to get the chip up 3.3 ghz, albeit not into windows at that speed. The limit to the chip seems to be around 3ghz and still getting into windows. my question is how high of vcore is still considered safe? the board seems to overvolt by .025 volts so even though i select one vcore it actually is a little bit higher. cooling is stock and the temps look ok. im using 3dmark as a stbility tool to see if the chip is stable in 3d. how many run thoughs would be considered stable? also i dont know if this will help determine the ceiling of my chip but i heard that win98 is alot more tolerant to ocing than say winxp or win2k. if it seems stable in 98 what are the chances it will be stable in 2k/xp? this chip actaully seems pretty decent around 3ghz i would like to have it running at that speed if i can. i am really nervous about the vcore. i have heard of snds and i was wondering if that applies to celerys too. im trying to keep the vcore belove 1.7v but it is hard when the board is overvolting by .025v. i know we have some mad celron ocers in here and i was hoping for some advice.:)

I replaced a 2.2 ghz celeron @ 3.3 ghz for a 2.8celeron @ 3.6ghz in my Shuttle box.

1.7v is fine. I've put the 2.8 in my vapo to try and get 4ghz an even put 1.9volts to it. No problem but didnt do much more for it.

I snag them cheap off the IPD program. So if i do kill it, doesnt matter, Plus it's a celeron so no loss.

put XP to it.

coo ill try that next was just a little cautious. oh well its only a celron anyways:p
