Celestica 9600XT - WTF?!

i bought this card from ebay - came it today...

it has a green PCB and a tiny black heatsink/fan. according to the part number label AA1000001501, it is indeed a 9600xt (http://www.binary.ca/celestica/CLS-part.htm):

Celestica Gold Edition Radeon 9600XT 128 Mb DDR, VGA, TV Out, DVI

it has 8 BGA samsung chips on it, and the layout looks 9600XT-ish, but the tiny 7500-like heatsink has me worried...

does anyone know anything about this card? does it run slower/worse than a regular 9600xt?

p.s. i paid $120 for it (w/shipping), which is pretty cheap for that card.

can u take pics
not until much later today...

i've comared it to the 9600XT's pics on newegg, and the PCB is identical, as well as placement of all the major chips on it...

but that freaking heatsink!!!... it looks like a 9600pro that [H] reviewed:

the green card - look at the heatsink!... but all the capacitors and other crap are positioned the same way as the 9600xt's...

not necessarily - if the card works as advertised (9600xt) - and the part number confirms that it's a 9600xt - i can replace that heatsink with something better and have a good card for cheap! that thing came in new in box, with all the accessories and drivers and cables and shit. sounds like a good deal, even if it turns out to be a 9600pro.

9.6k cores dont relaly put out THAT much heat, so you are probably OK in that department, but i wouldn't expect too much headroom for overclocking. I tried to find some pics on celestica.com (which apparently is their website) but we had an internet outage earlier today (i'm at school) so EVERYTHING is sluggish... we're about 1/3rd our normal capacity for internet availability... so i've given up finding a pic. If it runs as advertised that is a pretty badass deal... IF you got HL2 that is ;D

no, no HL2. then again, who knows when they release it... :D

i tried looking for the pics myself - NOTHING. no photos at all... nowhere to be found...

i will be slapping a Crome Orb on it as soon as i verify that it works as 9600XT, at 9600XT's speeds. if it is a 9600PRO i will probably sell it on ebay, get an extra $20-30 bucks. the guy i bought it from didn't even post any good description or photos or anything:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2785201771

i am sure if i was to post good photos and guarantee that the card works and all that, i'd get at least $140 for it.

p.s. i shall call it "the abominable celestica".

if it says RV360 than you have a 9600XT
i know - i would need to wait till i get home to do this. i can't exactly start dismantling this card while i'm at work... :) (yeah, i know - i can post on forums, but i can't mod?!)

but then again, i may as well just slap it into my rig and test it out that way.

if the description was so vague why didn't you email the seller or even bid at all

my 9600pro runs past XT speeds on stock 9600 pro colling (itsy bitsy HSF) and the thing is rock stable

because the auction ended at like 7am, and i did email the dude, but i only found the auction a few hours before it ended, and there was no time to find out any info about it.

good to know - i will be testing it shortly - will post results in a bit.

There is a local shop here in saskatoon that sells those cards as well for 224 Can$ But if it works allthe power to you and a pretty good deal.

the card is 9600XT - works perfectly. Overdrive Tab is in the Control Panel, as well as the temperature reading (on this shitty GPU cooler it hovers around 35C). PowerStrip shows 500mhz on GPU and 600mhz on RAM.

i'm not too impressed though - don't get me wrong, it's awesome and all that, but i'm spoiled by my 9700pro. :) i will be replacing this card with 9700pro, and have already put it up on ebay.

btw, i was able to get the card up to 560mhz on GPU and 680mhz on RAM on the stock cooling. i'm sure with a good cooler and some ramsinks this card will kick some major ass!!!

<pics deleted - PM me if you're curious>
