Celerons for Divx encoding/decoding

So whats the word on the Celeron when it comes to Divx? Right now I am encoding with the box in my sig, and as we all know the MPX chipset has horrible memory bandwidth and such.

I also have an Asus A7N266-VM/AA with a 2400+ Athlon in it as my Divx Player/HTPC. Well that’s what I wanted it to be but it does not have TV out on it.

So now I am looking at the Asus P4R800-VM with the ATI 9100 IGP chipset. Along with the board I will need to purchase the AV/S card for $15 to give me TV out and mod it to a different back plate.

Now I really dont have a lot of cash to spend on this project. Also heat is a small issue due to the board being mounted in an AOpen H340D which is a slim mATX case. Since the board offers no overclocking features per say, I was thinking of a 2.0 or 2.2GHz Celeron and pushing the bus speed to 533 if the board allows. I need to so some reading on this but I would think that it would let me do atleast that. I mean it is not one of my Intel made boards that auto recognise everything.

So a 2.0 or 2.2Ghz Celeron at 2660 or 2930MHz respectivly. Good enough for the purposes of encoding and decoding Divx? I don't really care if the Celeron takes an extra 20 minutes on something here, most of the time I let Dr. Divx just run overnight or when I leave the house.

Thoughts?

Celeron works fine on divx. Just takes a beating on Games mostly.

My shuttle HTPC rig is a 2.2 celeron @ 3.3ghz, Leadtek TV card in it DVD burner. I record all my TV shows straight to DIVX, tv card has encoder on it though .

but i also use it for Backup ripping of my DVD's to divx. I've go a lite on TV DVD player that plays divx. LD2002 model.

It encodeds fast enough for me.

Thanks for the response.

I ended up gettting an Albatron KM18G PRO 2.0 with a 1.4GHz AMD Applebred. I know I will not get the memory bandwidth that the Celeron would have but I the Albatron included the TV out cable with the board. I plan on clocking the CPU at 1.7Ghz or higher. The motherboard does not support voltage adjustments but some wire in the socket can solve that problem easily.

Cheers
