CeleronD temperatures too high?

I built Shuttle ST62K system (the Zen), and in a bid to make it quieter, put a 80mm Stealth fan in and took out the buzzy noisy fan they provided. Now the CPU is a 2.8ghz Celeron-D and the temps are hitting 70C idle. Should I worry about the temps?
 
Holy Cow!!

The temps are outrageous! It means the chips is throttling all the time. => you have probably have 50% of the chip's performance.

Due your best to get idle under 45 and full load under 65 since at 67C it begins to throttle.
 
that's way too high.... It's easy for the heatsink on the Celeron D can be badly positioned (one edge can sit on the side of of plastic). I had this problem, where the CPU was idling at 80degrees!!!!

The normal idle should be around 35-45 degrees depending on the ambient temperature.

Even a 30% overclock will still give an idle of 38-48 degrees.
 
since you reseated the heatsink you may have messed it up. you might also have mounted the fan blowing in the wrong direction (supposed to be pulling air out of shuttle). i know i had my ICE mounted wrong and my comp got up to 90C before i figured out what was wrong. I was very happy that i didnt damage the proc

Really eh? Uh o.... the thing is I checked the temps while it was running when I set it up and it was fine (35-40 idle, 60-65 load). Then I gave it to my friend who happens to go to school 200km's away.

I went to pick her up the other day and I happend to check the temps and they were at 70's supposedly. Now I was slightly concerned, but didn't think too much of it at the time since we were in a rush. Now Im' a little worried.

Guess I'll get her to leave her computer for now and get her to bring it back so I can check it out sometime.

At any rate, since it's throttling, will it do the CPU any damage if it were to run at 70c for prolonged periods of time?
 
I get 32C idle and 46C full prime 95 load on the retail heatsink with thermal paste. Sounds like a heatsink reseating is in order. Or try another fan.
 
Well I reseated and checked it. I ran Prime 95 and it peaks off at 85C, however the CPU doesn't thermal throttle.I was actually testing it and didn't seat the heatsink properly, and it actually hit 107c (which it was throttling, obviously). I'm starting to think the Shuttle BIOS might be flawed and is reading the CPu temp wrong because the moment I turn on the computer, it idles at 67C, and this is after new AS5 and a fresh reseat. Surely the ICE should cool better than that?
 
My Celeron D idles between 25-30C. I have NEVER broken 45C. Atleast that I have seen, and thats while running F@H all night.

AS5 + Thermaltake HS and an 80mm Tornado

The Tornado barely made any difference from the stock one or a Sunon fan.

I have a Prescott, and the Tornado is there because I used to overclock.
 
That`s extreme HIGH!!
I have a little Server System with a CeleronD with 2.4 ghz. I use only the Intel boxed cooler and Power Supply with a 120mm fan. The temperature is only at 44C idle.
Cant understand why youre Cerleron D have such a high Temperature.
