What do you guys think of this CPU? I'm looking at it as a way to get on socket 1155 dirt cheap, plus its gotta be a upgrade from my Pentium d CPU. I know it won't overclock and its a Celeron but it is sandy bridge and 1155. From what I've seen its just behind the g620 Pentium and I'd hate to spend a extra $20 on it when ill be getting a 2500k late January anyways.
 
I'll be reusing the power supply and video card from my dell rig in Sig and the res is only 1360x768
 
Be careful with that power supply swap... Some Dell PS's were not compatible with the "standard" motherboards... I'd Google it up before plugging it in to you new mobo/CPU...:eek:

For sure. Dell is famous for rewiring the plugs to prevent people from doing what you're trying to do.

On the plus side, if that's a normal ATX case a decent power supply won't set you back too much.
 
LOL, you didn't look at my Sig rig, its a corsair cx430 power supply.Im putting the stock dell psu back in the dell, taking out my psu and video card to reuse with my new parts
 
I can play fallout 3 on medium with my sig rig, but I can't play new Vegas at all. I ran fraps while playing and fo3 stays around 30fps but new Vegas on low is in the teens and its a slide show. This is at 1360x768 res too with the 8800gt video card.

That's the reason why i want to upgrade. This dell can't game for crap at this low res, I figure the sb Celeron should at least double my framerate right?
 
Don't think of the Intel® Celeron® G530 as an old time Intel Celeron, they really a different bird all together. Going from an Intel Pentium® D to anything current will be a big improvement in performance for you. I would go for it but if you could somehow get the money to move up to the Intel Core i3-2100 you might find that it was a good investment.
 
Look for combo discount deals on an 1155 MoBo and G620. And try as hard as you can to get the I3-2100.
 
I'm gonna get a i5 2400 in March, I just need something to hold me over til then and the Celeron fit the bill with the low price. Trying to get the funds together now and buy everything next weekend
 
Well i finally got it all, after I get this video card ill post up some numbers

It won't be until thursday/Friday when I get the video card but so far this CPU feels very quick
 
yo Bman.....we're doing the same thing.

I got a great deal on Lightroom 3 but didn't want to put it on my nettop. So I'm building my first computer.

I've started with a G530 and H61 mobo. Been putting together parts since. Thinking I can upgrade the CPU as I have more funds and prices fall.

Wondering, what chipset are you using? I'm thinking of switching to a P67, but I'm not sure if the G530 + P67 + video card will work. Heck I don't even know if the G530 + H61 + video card will work either.

Looking forward to your input and members' comments.

I've got a G530 that I put into a "left overs" mini-ITX system. I paired it with an older GeForce 250 and hooked it up to my 720P TV (1366 x 7680). It plays everything but Battlefield 3 pretty well. TF2 at highest settings is well above 60FPS.

For 720P, with a good GPU, it's not bad.
 
Pierre, the Celeron will work just fine with a GPU in any 1155 motherboard equipped with a PCI-e slot.

Whew! TigerDirect has a $35 H67 mobo right now.

ETA: This particular H67 is a little limited. I'm looking at a few P67 mobos @ $100.

Want to get the mobo exactly right because I'm finding that OEM Windows 7 is attached to the mobo, non-transferable.

I broke down and ordered the Asus mobo. It's a fair guess I'll have the fastest G530 in Wyoming. :rolleyes:

Glad you were able to get some goodies ordered. Would love to hear about your impressions and experiences with the Sandy Bridge Celeron when you get it up and running!
 
Wow where have i been lately, i forgot all about this thread sorry guys. So far so good with the celeron. This video card is beyond showing its age but the cpu is showing that its a very good buy for low res stuff. I dont do anything real intensive program wise and for my usage so far i highly suggest this cpu.

Really for what i paid for the complete tower i cannot complain. It was $278 total with tax for the complete tower minus windows. I only bought the video card and power supply used everything else was new. If someone is building a tower for a family member you cant go wrong going this route. With the integrated video it streams netflix and hulu just fine, websurfing is smooth and snappy.

It really is a good value compared to buying a store built pc. But i gotta get to the good part playing some games. Mind you this video card is 4 years old so it shows lol. Everything is at 1280x720 btw.
Cod4 max everything pretty much stays locked at 91fps online
fallout NV everything maxxed but water refractions and reflections stays above 45 fps
cod mw3 single player min 28 avg 38 max 42 everything maxxed
saints row the third detail medium no aa or af everything else low stays above 30fps i havent had enough time to play that game but i doubt i can really turn up the graphic settings due to the old card

I have the water settings turned down in fallout because it helps stabilize the framerate. Whenever i run into people the framerate tanks which i believe is just a port problem because when im out wandering around the framerate stays above 40fps all the time. I will turn up SR3 and see what happens but i dont expect it to be good due to the old video card

If any of you want me to run a certain benchmark please feel free to tell me what you want to see and ill gladly run it for you. I dont play a lot of games so sorry for the lack of numbers guys...
 
I changed my mind so many times I ended up with enough components for two computers. One is an i3 workstation with Asus P67, 16 gigs ram and a firepro graphics card. I also built a HTPC. It ended up with my G530 and H61 mobo. I added 8 gigs ram, 60 gig SSD boot drive, 2TB HD, an Asus low profile video card and a Hauppage tuner. It's pretty happy, but honestly I'm not sure yet what all it does (DOH!).

This has all been a bunch of fun. Got my eye on a micro center i5-2550K. This may start some cascading upgrades. Thanks all!
 
Lol. Im pretty happy with my i3 2100 it runs the games I play no problem
