I recently purchased a 2.66Ghz Celeron D and swapped the heatsink off for an aftermarket heatsink. I was curious as to cooling performance so had swapped back to the retail heatsink again to try it with aftermarket thermal paste. After reseating the heatsink and mounting it, I turned the PC on and noticed the fan no longer fluctuated in performance. Originally it seemed to speed up as the chip's temperature increased, while it now idles at approximately 2500RPM (before it would peak as high as 5000RPM). Im just kind of curious if anyone knows what would cause this?

Thanks in advance,

You mentioned using an aftermarket thermal paste when you reapplied the HSF?

It's possible that the processor is no longer getting warm enough to trigger the fan to speed up. Just a thought..

Temperatures were higher after swapping thermal paste :( For some reason the fan just doesnt seem to spin up now, I went from 40C to 47C due to the fan running at half speed... Im really curious why its doing this.

Do this and be happy with cooling, remove the lil blue thermister as close to the blue bulb as u can take a spare pre wired thermister (most ever one has some in there house from old mod projects, smart fans, ect) and plug it into the 2 wires that are now sticking out of the fan at the top, place the end of the thermister at the base of the hsf as close to the cpu as u can get it,then it will read right, now if u want it to run full blast then cut the lil blue thermister off all the way.
