Celeron D or AXP??

Now, I'm looking at purchasing some new crap, and I'm needing to choose between some low priced CPUs.

I know and have owned sever AXP machines, however, this celeron D looks interesting as a direct competitor to the AXP. From what I've seen too, it's pretty overclockable, and from what i've seen, they're doing 3.8ghz ... and that seems to be common.

Has anybody had any actual experience with this cpu? overclocked benchies of it is something that I have yet to see, and I'm interested to see how it rates against other processors while being overclocked.
 
a celeron D @ 3.8ghz is about equal to a p4 at 3.2. itd take a amd overclocked to 2.3+ghz to beat it. pretty easy feat considering the overclockability of the mobile athlons.

me personally, id still take the celeron D tho.
 
Me personally I would stick with an AXP because in my opinion they are cheaper, easier to overclock, and they have proven themselves to be good performers :D

PS. that is at 2.2 ghz a full ghz under intel :D
 
i'm gonna recommend the axp setup as well. i'd do something like this probably:
nf7-s2g or the an7 or something if you don't need gigE... the dfi lanparty/infinity is good too, but has issues with the thermalright mounting plate by default; however, thermalright (i think) will ship you a compatible one for free/cheap.
mobile athlon 35W 2400+ (mine's at 2.45 now, gonna do more once i pintrick it for a higher multi... my max fsb is 195:()
depending how 'budget' you need, i'd say either corsair pc3200XL or some corsair value ram in whatever quantity you want (but i'd get no less than 512mb personally)
thermalright sp97 + 92mm panaflo (change fan based on noise tolerance)

should come to about $300-$400 based on memory selection at newegg.

But the Barton PR generator dosent take into account your FSB being higher than 200. Which would make the PR rating even higher....mines at 240 with 2.64, so that'd probably be like a 4400+ instead of just a 4000+ (2.64 with a 200 FSB).

Didn't think AMD's stacked up quite that well against the P4s, and after looking some more @ the celeron, their gaming performance blows, sometimes a P4C @ 3ghz beats it...

Think I'll go with AMD.

AMD's stomp all over Intels. Me at 2.7ish is = to an Intel at 3.7ish.


Celerons are fine for games, but I would still try and get an AMD rig.

Not all of them. Mine just couldn't overclock to anything above stock clockspeeds without causing serious instabilities. But maybe I had my memory timings incorrectly set - the memory that I used when I had the AMD rig was rated at 2-3-2-6, but even that set of timings may have adversely affected performance and/or overclockability. And I knew for a fact that the nForce2 chipset likes the value 11 better than 5 or 6 for the RAS Active to Precharge (tRAS).

I have a cel 3 2.66 running at 3.2 on an 865pe mobo. The cpu was instable at 166mh fsb, but at 160mh fsb it's rock solid (prime95, pcmark04, 3dmark01/03, sandra). If my mobo had voltage changing options, then I'm sure 166 wouldn't be an issue, but it doesn't. The mobo and cpu was <$150. It seemed like a good deal to me.
