Celeron 366mhz PPGA

Now Im an experienced overclocker, but have run into a brick wall...

The brick wall is made of

INTEL MOTHERBOARD...

Which in turn does not allow normal overclocking so i have turned to another method.
Specifically the one listed here.

But the thing is, I have a slot 370 and not a slot1. And that guide is only for a slot1.
I was wondering if in theory it would be possible to apply the same concept of this guide to a PPGA version of that cpu?
I have also found a image of which pin needs to be blocked out, but it claims its for a slot 370 PIII, not a celeron... I was wondering if i were to block that pin also would it work?

Ok.......just to clarify, its socket 370 , not slot 370. This is interesting...........I had'nt seen this before. It should work with a FC-PGA since a Celeron socket 370 and Pentium III socket 370 are essentially the same. It is a Pentium III at heart with half the L2 cashe. ;)
NOW... problem is, the PPGA's run at a 66mhz fsb. :mad: This guys basis for the pin mod is that you have a chip working at 100mhz fsb - going up to 133. If for example you have a P2 450 (100fsb x 4.5).....a jump to 133 x 4.5 = 598.5mhz. Definately do-able with your eyes on temps/cooling. Now look at the 366 (66 x 5.5)......if for some reason the pin mod works(fooling it to 133fsb), you get 133 x 5.5= 731.5!!! :eek:
366mhz to 731.5!!
Personally, I think it would fry in minutes..........but if you dont mind the potential deep-fry, I'd be interested how you make out.(I might even try it.....I've got a 366 lying around too)

Also the logic behind it is not a jump neccessarily from 100-133, but as indeed the 133 could not run at 66, so merely it measures resistance if it 66 ot 100, just is if its 100 or 133...


The cpu cost me 5 dollars from www.tigerdirect.com I think i will give it a try and post the results.
 
oooo i wanna know what happens here too. i have a celeron 400 PPGA just waiting to be overclocked, but i can't do it with the motherboard i have. would this work if the motherboard only supports 66fsb?

oh - and how are you planning to block the pin?
 
not trying to thread-jack or anything but this does look promising...however, does anyone know if I can do this trick with the following setup?

PIII 1Ghz (s370) w/Powerleap Neo s370 adapter
running in a Dell Gx100 (Dell mb using Intel 810 chipset).

I can get it to run at 100Mhz bus in the board with the adapter (without the adapter, it won't boot)...and once in windows I can use CPUFSB to adjust the clock to 112Mhz (giving me around 842Mhz)...but if I try to go to 124 or 133 it crashes/reboots...my guess is the cpu/memory ratio is outta whack.

it's not extremely important as the pc is just being used to access the internet anyway though...but modding is always fun :)

A 366 will never run at 133MHz FSB. Celeron 533's and below do not have a PIII based core. If you could get the FSB up to 100MHz from 66MHz that would be your best bet. If your 366 won't run at 100MHz FSB then get a 300A. You'll have no problem running a 300A at 100MHz FSB
 
Ok Everybody missed the boat.... Or I explained it poorly (My english is bad)

PIII's (generally) Run at either 100 or 133mh fsb.
Celeron Run at either 66 or 100

Lets assign First front Side bus vale X, and Second One N.

The presence of the pin decides wether or not to run at X or N, But the guide only claims for PIII's, I have a celeron, The guide didnt say a celeron wouldnt work, and from what i have heard the two CPUs are very close to eac other.

Will it work with teh celeron?
 
FC-PGA celerons are the SAME as Pentium3's, no matter what the bus. This should work fine for them, just like the P3.
The PPGA celeron may not..........the pins may work differently, this needs investigation.

Above all....... the motherboard must support auto-detection of fsb, and the site states "using a BX(chipset) motherboard".


On a side note: Anyone stuck with a slot1 BX motherboard, and want to upgrade? HEH :p How about stuffing a Tuatulin P3 in it? Dont know WHY you'd want to, but look: More fun with spare parts!

Yes, Monkey gets what im talking about... just... is it worth a try? and from what my research has revealed A BXchipset isnt too important
 
on a slightly related note, this is what REAL overclocking is. having menus is a luxuary that is new.

Heh........just looked at that celeron I have. Its really a 667mhz. Still may toy with it though. :rolleyes:
 
Hmm I wanna try this with my old Super motherboard and PIII 450mhz (cpufsb software ocd steady to 520mhz)

Any danger of frying the motherboard..? I mean there always is but with the tape thing.. etc..?
 
Just a curiosity and confirmation, as I am about to attempt this,(Thus indeed i will report the results and post them here ) I have one question.

What is a BX motherboard and how are they classified? I wish to confirm this as im not 100% sure of this.

Its talking about the motherboard chipset. Specifically the Intel 440bx ( see here: 440BX )

This came out before the Intel 810/815 versions.

I believe it'll work on any board that auto detects the fsb(66,100,133).....but maybe only Intel.
Something Else: I've been looking around and came upon this BX tweaking guide: GUIDE
It works using this utility in place of mostly non-existing bios options : Utility

I also was thinking that I may not want to try this with my 667 celeron( it depends on what the mobo has to offer for bios settings. I've got a couple of them to look at on my shelf). Its 66fsb x 10 multiplier. If I get it to work, and there are no options to play with the speeds, its gonna sit at 100fsb x 10 - 1000mhz(a recipie for disaster). I'd feel better going from 100 to 133.....a more comfortable jump up.
 
wats the point? cos u have celeron 366, 5.5x66. its 0.25 micron ppga and won't overclock much higher than 450mhz. 5.5x100=550 would be way too high unless u have watercoolin or better and u'll also need extra voltage to get that high.

2. A challenge/hobby/fun


Obviously a celeron doesnt have performance at 366 or 450 or 550 or 650 mhz... So its definitly not number 1.

Plus it cost me 5 dollars... so why not???

Oh and posted some links to volt mods... So voltage isnt too much of an issue... Its going to be cooling/stability.
