Hello,
a friend ordered an Intel Celeron 1.8 chip and an Intel D865GBF
motherboard. When he received them, on the motherboard box
it says only Celerons above 2.0 supported. Will the 1.8 work on
this motherboard? Loking at Intel's website it says it's compatible
with 400MHz Celerons. Thanks for your time.

Should be. I just built a box with cellie 1.7 and gigabyte i865g

Nope. The 1.7 and 1.8 Celerons run on a different voltage than the Celeron 2.0+

Some boards like most Asus/ABits/others will let you run the older voltage Celerons, but not the newer Intel motherboards.

I have an Intel 865GRH, and I know for sure it will not work with a Celeron 1.7 or 1.8 so don't even try. Supports E, EE and preschots though.

Thanks, guys. He's returning it for a 2GHz version.

Good call there. The older 1.8GHz Celeron is based on the Willamette core. And the D865GBF isn't compatible at all with any Willamette-based processors - it will support only Northwood-based and later chips, and newer AA revisions of that board may also support Prescott-based CPUs.
