Looks like Intel have done a great job reducing power consumption with the new core/process. The CM core @ 3.4GHz consumes 34 watts less under load than the Prescott core at the same speed - that's almost 20%.

Now I'd love to see what the overclocking potential of the new core is!! :D
 
What would be even better would be compatibility with 945 and 955X.

It seems like a decent drop on wattage, but the entry level X2's have about the same TDP. I just wonder how easy it will be to cool this tiny core compared to the monster manchesters.
 
ah, named after Cedar Mills. I love knowing that the code names are named after northwest places. Life is better here.
 
If it's going to be the new 600 series it should be compatible with 915 and up atleast.

According to Tom's, at stock speeds at least, it still gets beaten by the X2. Hard to say when overclocked.
