CDRW problem

I bought my TDK 48x24x48x CDRW about a year and half ago. All of a sudden, when I burn the cd at 48x, it just stops at 6% of burning and never continues. But If I try to burn it 8x, it works fine. Anything higher just stops and keeps speeding up and slowing down the cd.

Yesterday I tried reinstalling windows xp and it would spin the cd and then slow it down. It kept on doing that forever.

I read that warranty from manufacturer is only 1 year. It has been more than a year. I have been using it as regular cd rom and burning too. So that might of messed it up because there was a lot of scratched and dirty cds were played.

Is there anyway I could fix it? Any suggestions would help.

You sure it has been a year ;) Looks like time for a new CDRW. You can pick one up on some weekends at BB or Ciruity City for $20-$30.

Update the firmware. Go to www.dhc014.rpc1.org, download the latest firmware for the Lite-On 52246S, which your drive is an OEM of. Instructions for flashing the firmware can be found there.

That sounds more like a motor problem, and not a firmware problem. Firmware isn't going to fix that.
