put in the xp bootable cd ive used forever and even a ubuntu live cd..

goes to the BIOS and jumps into "safe boot, safe boot with command prompt etc screen" the boot order is CD ROM HD.. its always worked.. Any ideas?

if you say its worked then its not reading the cdrom as first boot device. bios options

its not, i havnt touched the BIOS forever, this morning didnt want to boot up just kept going to "safe boot, safe boot with command prompt etc screen" worked last night stalls at agp440.sys when trying to go into safe boot

Have you tried making sure the cables are in? It could also be a faulty IDE cable. At the very worst, a dead drive.

Does it work in Windows?

Have you tried setting it to boot only from the CDRom? So disable the 2nd boot, 3rd boot, and etc.

Just set the first boot as CDRom.

make sure your disk is clean and scratch free. i have had older roms not like a disk that was scratched or dirty.

you haven't touched it but are ya gonna check it? its that or the hardware. if you're getting to boot options its NOT reading the cdrom. I'd say g'luk but you're not being too helpful
