when i hit eject on my cd-rw it just opens up about 1/2 an inch and then closes... how do i fix this problem?

Well first of all, get a paperclip. Then turn your computer off.

There will be a tiny hole on the front of the drive, insert a STRAIGHT paperclip straight into the hole and push, the tray will eject a bit, pull it out the rest of the way until its fully out.

Look around for something that might be hanging it up, remove the CD if there's one in there.

Now, leave it open and turn off of your PC. It should inject by itself without being caught up on anything. Try it now, any luck?

Use a paper-clip to pop out the stuck cd in there. Barring there being a stuck CD, you're pretty borked because then it has to do with the sensors that know where the tray is. I had a drive once that was messed like that, and I had to do some hardcore modding to get it to work.
