CD-ROM wont read disks

My cd-rom drive wont read any of my disks. I put diablo 2 in to renew all my chars, but i kept getting the message that i need to insert the cd into my cd-rom. Wtf its already in there. I tried using playing call of duty to see if it was just my d2 disk, but it wouldnt recognize that the call of duty disk was in there either. Is there drivers or something that i need to download or something?

There might be an accumulation of dust and other stuff on the laser itself which is disrupting the read. Get a compressed air can and use quick bursts at different angles into the drive when its opened.

If you drive is really really old, there's even a chance that the hardware has deteriorated or has simply just died out =(.

Make sure your cds are clean too. Dust and stuff on cds not only disrupts the laser reads, but can also leave itself inside your cd drive and on the laser. You can rinse your cds with cool water and gently brush your finger over them. Dab with a papertowel afterwards.

the hardware shouldnt have deteriorated...its only 3 years old.
 
-Reboot
-Turn off and check IDE and power connections
-See if maybe BIOS detects the drive
-See if it shows when the comp posts

-Check the brand to see if it's crappy :p

Just pick-up another CD-ROM (if the air does not work) as they are fairly inexpensive.

Feh. You can even get a good CDRW for like $30 now. I paid frickin' $90 a few years ago for my Memorex.
 
TheBackwardsMan - this is a pretty common failure mode for CDROM's. One second they work fine, the next, they are dead as a hammer. Best answer is to try a known good drive.

ok i fixed the problem with it not reading my cd's...but i had to re-format to do so. I need help setting up the internet connections now. Please if anyone know it would be great.

The computer that i need internet settings to is connected through a router
I use comcast cable internet.
