My brother has a cd rom problem. Been trying to talk to him over the phone about it...anyway...the other day he put a cd in and it must have slipped out of the middle of the tray or something becasue it scratched the cd to hell and he said it made a loud noise. It worked after that though for a few days. Then I get a call saying when they stick a cd in, nothing happens. Told them to go to my computer and open up the cdrw drive to view the contents but the window is blank like it's not reading any contents. I had him uninstall it through device manager and reboot for the hell of it. Now it gives an I/O error every time he tries to access the drive. I know that means input/output...but does that mean the drive is bad or what? I would think if the mobo or IDE cable was screwed it wouldnt have worked at all. This is a new computer btw...not even a month old...but when I built it, I just used there old cdrw since they already had it. Any ideas?
