I noticed that with my last computer my DVD-ROM drive had a cable connecting it to my soundcard(CD-IN). Well I got a new CD/DVD RW drive and it was OEM so did not come with any cable for this. Is it not needed to connect my drive to my soundcard, or should I go see if I can buy one from a computer store close to my house?

As long as you have Windows 2000 or newer, the cable is not required. In fact, I don't recommend using it because the cable is quite vulnerable to noise picked up by electromagnetic interference in your case.
