CD-Rom & CDRW drives missing!

I recently installed a new HD & Win XP. Got everything straightened out and things have been going ok. I just put a CD in the CD-ROM drive and the damn computer doesn't even know either drive is there! I went to the "Help & Support" section and it says no CD-ROM drive installed.

WTF?! It was working fine earlier today! :mad: :confused:
 
Start with the basics. If you've been in the case, there is a very good chance that you have bumped the cable loose from the motherboard. If it is on the same IDE controller as the new harddrive, (which it shouldn't be ideally) make sure you have your master and slave setting correct.

All cables are good
 
You could try uninstalling the IDE controller in Device Manager. When you reboot, go into your CMOS settings, and make sure that all drives are detected there. If they show in CMOS, then they should be detected and work when Windows detects and reinstalls the IDE controller on reboot.

I uninstalled both drives & reinstalled. Still not working. Still saying that the drivers are missing or corrupted

i ment that in a physical way, like disconnet all the cables and what not and then reconnect them......i was beaten to the punch

I just did that & no change.
 
how do you have your drives and cables set up? i'm guessing you have the HD on one IDE cable and the 2 optical drives on the other optical cable. check the jumpers on the optical drives just to make sure.

Yes, that's how they have always been & have worked fine for years. Cables & Jumpers are all good. I checked those already. They were not messed with at all anyway
 
Reinstalling windows really isnt that hard. You dont have to reformat, just reinstall.
