Cd-rom audio cable

They are not needed for any current optical drives. With older ones they are actually necessary to play directly from a CD.

Indeed. My grandparents were asking me why their computer wouldn't play audio CDs, and all I had to do was add the cable for it to work. It was a 4x CD-ROM IIRC.
 
Nowadays people don't use those cables anymore, and that also cleans up the wire management inside the case.
