CD Ripping

ok I have over 70gb of music. I take my cd's that I own and rip them on to my hard drive so I dont scratch the cd's...now for the problem......

Today I bought 4 new cd's. WHen I put the cd's in the rip them a program pops up and tell me it needs to install a player. After I close it my cd poped out. SO I decided to install it and then rip my cd....Well after I open my rippin program it made it to song 2 and I got an player error. So I tried windows media player....still same thing.

so I decided to use the ripping program the installed withthe player. IT WORKED but it encoded my music in .wma 128kb format and protected.. Do anyone know away around this anti-ripping program.

I believe you did not actually rip the CD. The included "ripping" program did nothing more than copy a bunch of WMA files off of a hidden part of the CD which only that program can read.

I would recommend CDex if you'd like to try getting around the copy protection. It might also help if you turn off windows optical drive autoplay.

That disc most likely installed a small driver prog on your computer that prevents access to the .CDA on the disc. Look around in you list on installed programs and see if you see anything spurious. Also, Hvatum is probably right about the WMA files you got.. I bet if you check them, there's also some DRM on them.

What you need to do is to uninstall whatever software the disc dumped on your HDD, then disable auto-running CD's the next time you put the disc in [you can just hold down shift when you insert the disc] and then use EAC to rip the data.
 
I csnt seem to find the program it installed is it possible to do a system restore?
 
It might actually show up in device manager as a driver for something, you could check there also. Otherwise, a system restore should do the trick as well.
 
ok I use Exact Copy to make .wav files. Each file is about 45mb big. But they dont play is there a setting in Exact Copy that I didnt do?

Doesn't matter.......it has been suggested that this is not an appropriate topic.
The rules are prettty specific about circumventing copy protection.

Edit: this may change so..........
