cd burner wont burn

when nero starts, and its supposed to be initializing the burning engine, the light to the floppy drive goes on for a second, and if i try to burn it freezes just when its supposed to start burning, no red light. its a lite-on 40x-12x-48x. the drive works fine as a cd reader, and nero recognizes it as a burner, but it wont burn. it wont burn with any other software, any other version of nero, or through windows either. also, if i disable the floppy drives it still doesnt work. i know this is a weird, random problem, but i hope somebody has some suggestions, thanks. im running an abit it7 board with an intel p4 1.8a gHz, 512 meg kingston max, the liteon burner and a liteon dvd drive, a couple wd hard drives, a normal floppy and a 5 1/4 inch floppy, and thats the one where the light goes on when its supposed to initialize the burning engine...i dont know how much of this info matters...
 
alright nevermind, it works again, something to do with ide channels or something. i just switched some hard drive configurations and whatever
